Compatible Air Handler Combinations (Max 39,000 BTU)

Connect 6K, 9K, 12K, 18K, or even 24K air handlers (not exceeding 39,000 BTU total). A minimum of 2 air handlers must be connected. Ideal total indoor load falls between 25,200 – 36,000 BTU (70%–100% of capacity), but you may connect up to 39K BTU total (108% diversity load).

    Example combinations include:

    • 18K + 12K + 9K = 39K
    • 12K + 12K + 12K = 36K
    • 9K + 9K + 9K + 9K = 36K
    • 24K + 12K = 36K (3 ports unused)
    • 18K + 9K + 6K + 6K = 39K

    Recommended Wire Size

    • Recommended: 10 AWG copper wire – supports 25A MCA and 30A max fuse
    • One Size Smaller (12 AWG): Not advised – may exceed ampacity under load and fail local code
    • One Size Larger (8 AWG): Beneficial for long wire runs, improving voltage stability and safety

Note: Total indoor unit BTU capacity must be calculated before installation. MRCOOL 5th Gen condensers are pre-charged with R-454B and are not compatible with previous R-410A systems. Always follow installation guidelines.
